1. Spooky Spider Web Lanterns

Looking for a spooky and fun Halloween craft to do at home? Why not try your hand at making a DIY Spider Lantern! This craft is easy to make and only requires a few supplies that you likely already have around the house. Plus, it's a great way to add some extra Halloween decor to your home.

To make your own DIY Spider Lantern, you will need:

  • A plastic jar
  • Spider web or cotton
  • Small toy spiders
  • Purple string light

Start by wrapping the string light around the battery pack on the end. Then, open up the jar and stuff a small handful of fake spider web into the bottom, along with a spider toy or two. Turn on the string light and insert it into the jar.

Next, fill in the space around the light with more spider web and spiders. Pack it well with web and cover up the string light so that there aren’t any parts of it showing. When you’re done filling the jar with web and spiders, put the lid of the jar back on.

Use your Spider Lantern in a dark place to see the webbing glow. This is a great craft to do with kids, and it's sure to add some extra spookiness to your home this Halloween!

2. Mummy Mason Jars

Mummies are a popular Halloween decoration, and they can be made easily and cheaply at home with some supplies from the craft store. You'll need a clear glass jar, white gauze bandages, scissors, craft glue or a hot glue gun, googly eyes, and black craft paper.

To make your mummy jar, start by wrapping the gauze around the jar, securing it with glue as you go. Wrap tightly and evenly, making sure not to leave any gaps. When you reach the top of the jar, cut off the bandage and glue the end down.

Next, attach the googly eyes and mouth. You can use black paper, foam, or felt for the mouth. Allow everything to dry, then place a candle or battery-powered tea light inside the jar and enjoy!

3. Frankenstein Rice Krispy Treats

Okay, this isn't a craft per se, but it's a super fun way to spend an afternoon with the kiddos (or without them, no judgement here). Frankenstein is one of the most popular Halloween characters, so these Rice Krispie Treats are sure to be a hit!

To make these spooky treats, you'll need some unsalted butter, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, sea salt, marshmallows, green food coloring, rice krispies cereal, mini marshmallows (optional), semi-sweet chocolate chips, coconut oil, and edible googly eyes.

Start by melting the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add sweetened condensed milk and stir until bubbly, about 30 seconds. Stir in a splash of vanilla and pinch of salt. Then, reduce heat to medium low and add the marshmallows. Stir until they're completely melted, then add a few drops of green food coloring and stir to combine.

Next, remove from heat and add the rice krispies and mini marshmallows. Stir to combine, then transfer the mixture to a pan. Gently spread it out, then allow the treats to set up for a bit while you prepare the chocolate.

To make the chocolate, melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave or a double boiler. Once melted, transfer a ¼ cup of the chocolate to a sandwich size ziplock bag. Cut the treats into 16 slices, then dip them into the chocolate. Don't forget to scrape off any excess chocolate!

These Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats are not only super fun to make, but they're also delicious! Your family and friends will love them, so be sure to give them a try this coming Halloween season.

4. Bat Wings

Making your own bat wings is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit! And it's easy too — all you need is some black fabric, elastic, and a headband.

To start, fold your black fabric in half and cut inverted scallops along the diagonal. Then, cut two 3-inch sections of elastic and loop them onto the ends of the bat wings. Sew each loop in place using a straight stitch, and go back and forth a few times to make sure it's secure.

Now you have your very own pair of bat wings! You can wear them as is, or add a little extra flair by attaching them to a face mask. Either way, you're sure to look spook-tacular this Halloween!

5. Graveyard Cake

This coming Halloween, try your hand at making a graveyard cake! This spooky and delicious treat is sure to be a hit with all your ghosts and goblins.

To make the cake, start by combining the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. In a saucepan, combine the butter, water, and cocoa. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat. Add it to the flour mixture and beat well. Then, beat in the sour cream and eggs. Pour the batter into a greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35-38 minutes.

While the cake is baking, you can prepare the frosting. In another saucepan, combine the butter, milk, and cocoa. Bring this mixture to a boil and then remove from heat. Stir in the sugar and vanilla. Pour the frosting over the warm cake and sprinkle with crumbled chocolate cookies. Allow the cake to cool completely.

To decorate, use black decorator's icing or gel to add tombstone words or faces to vanilla sandwich cookies. Make ghosts by adding mounds of whipped topping and using the icing to add eyes and mouths. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. Just before serving, add pumpkin candies and gummy worms if desired. Enjoy!
