Obviously, summertime is the perfect season to head to the beach. This place is the embodiment of summer relaxation and fun. Going to the beach is definitely one of the most anticipated activities while on vacation.

But with kids in tow, it can be a bit of a challenge to keep everyone entertained.

If you're looking for some ideas on what to do while at the beach with kids, look no further! In this blog post, we'll share with you a few ideas to keep kiddos and kids-at-heart busy while at the beach. From building sandcastles to playing in the waves, there's plenty of fun for everyone.

Without further ado, let's get started!

1. Build a Sandcastle

Nothing screams summer relaxation more than a big, sandy castle! Building sandcastles is one of the most popular activities you can do with your kids while at the beach, and there's no wrong way to do it. Just be sure to provide tools such as a shovel, bucket, and some carving tools.

Of course, building a sandcastle requires patience and creativity. We recommend that you learn about making sandcastles using the soft-packing method, which we discussed in our blog post here. For sure, your kids will have a blast creating their sandcastle masterpieces!

2. Eat Ice Cream

No trip to the beach is complete without eating some ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down on a hot day.

There are so many different flavors to choose from. So, whether you like chocolate, vanilla, or something else, you're sure to find something you'll enjoy.

3. Collect Seashells

Collecting seashells is another great way to pass the time while at the beach. Not only is it a fun activity, but it's also a great way to teach kids about the ocean and the different creatures that live in it. Plus, seashells make great souvenirs.

Before you go seashell hunting, bring a bag to collect all the shells you find. This will make it easier for you and your kids to grab them when you're ready to go home and not lose any.

When collecting seashells, remind your kids to be safe and not pick a broken seashell that might cut their hands. Safety first!

4. Indulge in Fruity Drinks

Another great thing about the beach is that you can enjoy some delicious fruity drinks. Whether it's a piña colada, daiquiri, or something else, these drinks are perfect for sipping on while relaxing in the sun.

Of course, if you're with kids, you'll want to stick to non-alcoholic versions. But that doesn't mean they won't be just as delicious.

5. Search for Crabs

Walking along the shoreline, you're bound to find some crabs scuttling around. This is a great opportunity to teach kids about these creatures and how they live.

Be sure not to touch any crabs you see, as they can pinch you. Instead, use a stick or your feet to gently prod them back into the ocean.

Crabs are amazing creatures that provide plenty of entertainment, so be sure to keep an eye out for them on your next trip to the beach.

Flying a kite is a classic beach activity that's perfect for kids. It's a great way to spend some time outdoors and enjoy the fresh air.

6. Get Buried in the Sand

This is a classic beach activity that kids love. It's also a great way to get them to take a break from playing in the water.

To do this, have your child lie down in the sand and then start digging around them. Once you have a hole big enough, start covering them up.

They'll be giggling the whole time. Just make sure to help them get up once they say so.

7. Fly a Kite

To fly a kite, you'll need a bit of wind. The best time to fly a kite is in the late morning or early afternoon when the wind is at its strongest.

If your kids haven't tried kite-flying before, here are a few tips:

  • Pick a large, open area to fly the kite. You'll need plenty of space for it to lift off.
  • Help your child hold the kite steady while it's getting ready to take flight. Once it's up in the air, they can let go.
  • If the kite starts to dip, have your child pull on the string to bring it back up.

8. Have a Picnic

Just like the park, the beach is a great place to have a picnic. Pack some sandwiches, snacks, and drinks and enjoy a meal with your family.

There's no need to be fancy. Just simple food will do. After all, the focus should be on spending time together and having fun.

Make sure to bring utensils in a blanket. If you're looking for some ideas on how to prepare a perfect picnic, here's a link to our blog post.

9. Play Frisbee or Beach Ball

Frisbee and beach ball are two more classic beach games that are perfect for kids. These games are great for getting some exercise and having fun at the same time.

Frisbee is a game that can be played with two or more people. To play, all you need is a Frisbee. The object of the game is to throw the Frisbee to each other and catch it in mid-air.

Beach ball is a game that can be played with two or more people as well. You can buy a beach ball at most stores. Your objective is to hit the ball back and forth to each other.

10. Play on the Waves

Last but not least, let your kids enjoy the ocean! Sometimes, the best way to have fun at the beach is to just play in the waves. Kids love to splash around and get wet, so let them wear their swimsuits, allow them to wade into the water, and watch them play!

Conclusion

We hope you have a blast the next time you're at the beach with your kids. Remember to try out some of these activities and take plenty of pictures!
