We know that camping is one of those activities that people love to do. But, it can be hard to find a good place to camp when you’re in Houston. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. This city has a number of beautiful parks that offer a great place to relax and unwind after a long day. Here are some of the best camping spots in Houston.

Lake Houston Wilderness Park

Enjoy the serenity at Lake Houston Wilderness Park!

Experience nature at Lake Houston Wilderness Park. With its vast forested area, this place is full of wildlife. This is one of the best, well-maintained parks in the area, especially when you consider that it's just one hour away from the city center.

Here, you can enjoy miles of trails that cross Peach Creek and around several lakes. This place also has a nature center and picnic areas, so you'll have plenty of outdoor options to choose from.

Brazos Bend State Park

Locates southwest of Houston, Brazos Bend State Park is a crowd favorite when it comes to camping. With well-kept showers and bathrooms, camping in this place is sure to be nice.

You can bring a tent or rent a small cabin to enjoy your stay. There are also a number of RV spots available, so you won't have to worry about finding a spot for your camper.

Aside from hiking, trail running, and mountain biking, you can go stargazing at the Observatory. Don't forget to bring good walking shoes and get ready to walk a lot.

Sheldon Lake State Park

Yes, 96 steps.

Sheldon Lake State Park is the go-to place if you enjoy nature spotting. It's home to a variety of wildlife such as snakes, alligators, and bees. Although there are no campgrounds inside, there are private camping options nearby

Fishing is allowed in this place even without a license, so you'll find plenty of opportunities to catch some fish.

The main focal point of this state park is the observation tower. If you want a challenge, you can climb 96 steps without using the elevator (sometimes not working). Sheldon Lake State Park is great for a day's walk without the crowd.

Galveston Island State Park

If bird watching is your thing, you will surely enjoy your stay at Galveston Island State Park. During migration season, different kinds of birds can be seen here. Their staff also offers lessons on the basics of camping, as well as educational and guided tours.

This place is perfect for kayaking and fishing, although a good portion of this place is very muddy and impossible to cross. Wear proper shoes when you visit this park.

Lake Livingston State Park

Lake Livingston State Park offers a lot of trails for you to enjoy. If you have a camper, you'll be glad to know that all hookups are available and in good shape. There's plenty of room in this place, and you are sure to relax once you see the beautiful view of the lake.
