April is just around the corner and that means the wildest day of the year is coming: April Fool's Day! Celebrated on the 1st of April, this day is the perfect time to play some pranks on your friends and family.

As early as the 14th century, New Year's Day was celebrated on March 25 in much of Europe, with another holiday--Annunciation Day--marking the beginning of the new year. It wasn't until 1582 that Pope Gregory XIII decreed that New Year's would be celebrated on January first. That change didn't happen overnight, however.

Many countries continued to celebrate the new year on April first for several years after the pope's announcement. Consequently, those who refused to acknowledge the new date were called "fools." It's likely that the association between April Fools’ Day and folly originated from this confusion.

In modern times, April Fools’ Day has become a day for practical jokes and hoaxes. If you're looking for a good laugh, then why not try pulling a prank on your friends and family? Here are some of the best and funniest pranks to pull this April's Fools Day!

Pranks to Pull on April Fools’

Disappearing Act

This is a great prank for couples or roommates. Simply disappear for the day and let your unsuspecting victim wonder where you've gone!

Here's one that'll be good for the kids that can appreciate a little freakiness: have someone sitting down and cover them with a blanket. As they're being covered with a blanket, they put their head down and replace it with a balloon. The person covering the other puts his hands on the balloon (looking like the head), the twists, twists, and pops it off! Throw it at your nephew for bonus points.

Reverse Prank

Turn the tables on your prankster friends by pranking them back! This is a great way to get even with anyone who's been particularly pesky lately.

Think: Dwight pranks on Jim. They don't occur often, but when they do... Jim suffers.

Office Chair Surprise

For this prank, simply wait until your victim leaves their office chair unattended. Then, quickly swap it out for a different one. When they return, they'll be in for a surprise! Harmless, but hilarious. Also from The Office, now I that think of it...

Fake Spider

These life-like toys are sure to spook your target!

This prank is perfect for anyone who's afraid of spiders. Place a fake spider in their path and watch as they jump out of their skin! You can even add a realistic touch by making the spider move using a fishing line or thread.

Salt in the Sugar Bowl

This is a classic prank that never gets old. Simply swap out the sugar in the sugar bowl for salt and watch as your victim takes a bite of their coffee or tea. Be sure to hide your laughter as they make faces at the unexpected taste!

Swap Sanitizer With Glue

This one is bound to get a few laughs. Simply swap out the hand sanitizer in your office or home with glue. Your victim will reach for the sanitizer, only to find that it's glue!

Hide the Car Keys

If you can find your victim's car keys, hide them somewhere in the house so they can't find them when they're trying to leave. This will definitely give them a good scare and a good laugh.

Rotate the Computer Screen

This one is sure to confuse anyone who falls for it. All you need to do is rotate their computer screen so that it’s upside down. Just hit CTRL + ALT + arrow key, then sit back and watch as they try to figure out what’s going on.

Googly Eyes Everywhere

"I think I'm being watched," says your target. And with googly eyes, they definitely are!

This is a prank that will take some time, but it’s worth it. Go around your victim's house and put googly eyes on every single item. This includes pictures, books, their toothbrush, you name it. They’ll be surprised at how many things in their house now have eyes.

Time Traveler

Turn all the clocks in their house ahead by an hour. It will be especially confusing if they have an analog clock set to the correct time! I wonder if yo can figure out how to change their smartphone clock...

Upside Down Pictures

This one is especially funny if you do it to someone who is really OCD about having everything in its place. Just turn all the pictures and frames upside down, and watch as they try to fix them all. It will drive them crazy!

BONUS: If you can replace some pictures with an actor that looks like the person they're replacing. See how long it takes them to notice.

Cookies With Toothpaste

If you have access to your target's kitchen, this is a great prank to play. Simply replace the cream in Oreos or other sandwich cookies with toothpaste. They’ll take a bite and get a nasty surprise!

Car With Balloons

This is a great prank if you share a car with someone. Just fill their car up with as many balloons as you can, and watch as they try to drive with all of them in there. It will be quite a sight!

Fake Mouse Infestation

Put plastic or rubber mice all over your target's place. In drawers, under furniture, in the fridge… anywhere you can think of! They’ll be so surprised when they start finding “mice” everywhere they go.

Broken Remote

This one is simple but effective. Just take the batteries out of their TV remote and hide them somewhere. They’ll be flipping through channels trying to find something to watch, and they won’t be able to!
