Do you chant "rain, rain, go away, come again another day" every time it starts sprinkling outside? Rain doesn't have to be your worst enemy. You can create some awesome memories with your family on rainy days. Keep reading to find out two awesome things you can do with the GetOutPass on rainy days.
The GetOutPass' super secret tip
Listen closely, my friends, for I am about to give you a tip that is going to change the way you plan your amusement park days forever. Lo, this is the ultimate news, the ultimate weapon, the ultimate secret to get you the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to maximizing your enjoyment at an amusement park. Are you ready?
The best time to visit an amusement park is when there's a light rain.
I would like to imagine that people typically don't like being wet. Unless it's the shower or a pool or something, then yeah, that doesn't count... but when it comes to being wet because you're stuck in the rain with your clothes on and your phone is going all wack because you weren't prepared for it, it[s not necessarily a good time. However, when you can plan things properly, going out in the rain can be a great thing, ESPECIALLY when it comes to going to an amusement park.
I need to ask you an important question: why do you go to amusement parks? Is it to eat that wonderful deep fried dough covered in powdered sugar? Is it to have the 17 year old kid correctly guess your weight? Is it to buy a slice of pizza for $8.99?
No. It's for the rides.
The rides are the ultimate factor of what makes an amusement park experience great or meh. The rides are what get people out of their comfort zones and help make great memories with their families and friends. I have so many great memories of visiting the awesome amusement park in Cincinnati. The rides, the anticipation for those rides, goofing off with my friends while in line--those are the things I remember. You know what else I remember?
How the rain made it so no one was there.
Sure, when it rains, you've got to deal with some annoying things; You're wet, your booty is wet, your shoes get soggy, you've got to worry about your phone, etc. Those are, naturally, the downsides of being outside in the rain. But think of the upside, man! The upside is that it takes thousands of people out of your lines. You'll practically walk onto roller coasters. You know that awesome one that usually has an hour long wait? You'll find that you'll wait much, much less than you will on your average sunny day. Pros and cons... pros and cons.
Plan out your GetOutPass summer with arts and crafts
If you wish to stay indoors during the rainy day, you'll want to set your sights on creating something fun your kids can get involved with. You know what kids love doing? Arts and crafts. I have yet to meet a single kid who doesn't love to get down with some paint, coloring, Lego, etc. Working in the crafts allows kids to exercise their creative muscles. It allows them to process their world, illustrate their emotions, work with their senses, and get some work on their motor skills, to name a few positives.
So what can you do that's GetOutPass themed in the arts and crafts?
- Create a GetOutPass summer calendar. Bust out a massive sheet of paper or pick up your calendar that you have hanging up in the kitchen. You can plan out your summer days with some activities on the GetOutPass. On the app, go to the "View All" tab. Once there, scroll through and pick some of the activities you'll want to try. Some may have restrictions on when you can use them, so be sure to reflect that in the calendar. Let your kids go nuts! Have them draw some roller coasters on your amusement park day. Have them draw a bowling ball and pins on bowling night. Have them plan their very own day with an activity on the GetOutPass! They'll all be so excited for their day to come and to participate in everyone's special day.
- Lego is always a great time for kids. It's pretty tough to be bad at stacking some nice blocks on top of each other. You could all work together on creating some iconic locations that's provided on the GetOutPass. How would you build a fish tank to represent an aquarium? Could you build one of the roller coasters at the amusement park? Could you create a bowling alley with lanes and a grill? The possibilities are endless!
- Build your own roller coaster! And by this, I probably mean something like building your own cart to ride in. Get some cardboard boxes (if you don't have any lying around, some grocery stores might have some you can take, or you can buy some solid ones from a home improvement store like Home Depot) and start decorating your car. Cart? Whatever the things are that you ride in. Let each kid have their own car or make one together with one of their siblings. They can decorate it however you like! Then, put on some first person footage of roller coasters on the TV. You can ride in the cart and react like you're riding a roller coaster!
