Two days to go and it's New Year! That's why it's time to get creative with some decorations. While there are many store-bought decorations you can buy, why not take on a DIY project and make your own?

In this blog post, we'll explore some easy and fun DIY decoration ideas that you can make to spruce up your New Year's celebration. These ideas will definitely help you create an unforgettable atmosphere for the big night. So grab your supplies and let's get started!

1. Paper Lanterns

Granted, we don't usually celebrate New Year in Chinese tradition, but if you're looking for a unique way to decorate for the New Year, why not try making paper lanterns? These classic decorations are effortless to make and can be personalized with any colors or decorations to fit the occasion.

To get started all you'll need is some cardstock or paper- preferably red and yellow, scissors, a stapler or tape, glue, a ruler and a pencil. As far as decorations go, you can use anything from gift wrap paper to washi tape, ribbons, sequins, stickers, glitter glue and small buttons.

This activity is perfect for those who like to get crafty but don't have too much time on their hands. You can easily make a bunch of these lanterns within an hour and have them hung up in time for your New Year's celebration.

2. New Year Backdrop

To serve as an eye-catching backdrop for your New Year’s celebration, look no further than this simple DIY decoration! All you need are two kinds of fringe garland (gold and silver) and a few basic tools. In just five minutes, you can have a magical photo booth that will amaze your guests.

To make your New Year backdrop, start by cutting the fringe garland to the desired length and hanging it up with masking tape. The gold and silver fringes add a festive sparkle that will immediately catch everyone’s eye! You can also add other decorations such as balloons or streamers to enhance the festive atmosphere even more.

For those looking for quick, easy and affordable decorating ideas for their New Year parties, this sparkly backdrop is the perfect solution. In just a few minutes, you can have a beautiful backdrop that will wow your guests!

3. Coffee Filter Wreaths

Start the new year off with a festive and easy-to-make DIY: Coffee Filter Wreaths! This simple craft project is perfect for adding a personal touch to your home décor that you can enjoy throughout the year. All you need are some foam wreaths, coffee filters, hot glue, a pen/sharpie, and some fishing wire if you want to hang it up.

To start, take your foam wreath and use the pen/sharpie to draw an outline of your desired shape. Then, begin gluing the coffee filters around the outside of the wreath until it is completely covered.

You can also use different colors and sizes of coffee filters to create interesting patterns or designs. Once the wreath is finished, you can use fishing wire to hang it up in your home. Now you have a beautiful and unique New Year decoration that was made with your own two hands!

4. Yarn Pom-Pom Garland

Welcome in the New Year with a festive display of handmade decorations! One of our favorite ideas is a yarn pom-pom garland. You won't need many materials to get started, just some yarn, some scissors and a piece of cardboard (big enough to cut down to size). The yarn needle is essential for this project, so don't forget it!

To make your pom-poms, wrap the yarn around the cardboard about 30 times and cut the loops on one end. Then tie a piece of yarn around the center of the loops and carefully remove it from the cardboard. To fluff up your pom-poms, give them a good shake and trim any excess yarn. Once you've made all your pom-poms, string them together with the yarn needle and hang them up as garlands to add an extra bit of cheer to your home this holiday season!

5. Beaded Sunburst Mirror

We have to be honest — this project can be a bit daunting. If you neither have the time nor the patience to build a complicated DIY project, then we suggest that you choose another decor from this blog post.

Effort and skill are certainly required to make this stunning Sunburst Mirror. But if you're up for the challenge, then here's what you'll need: a 12-inch craft ring, a 5-inch round mirror (or bigger!), crystal rondelle beads, 14mm shell beads, elastic beading cord, 10-inch ceiling medallion, and two sheets of scrapbook paper. You'll also need a hot glue gun, scissors, a sheet of white printer paper, and pencil.

To make the Sunburst Mirror, first you will need to create two templates for your sunburst rays on the white printer paper. Cut out each template and trace them onto the scrapbook paper to create several large and small rays.

Then, fold each paper ray lengthwise to give it dimension so they don't lay flat. Place all the rays around the ceiling medallion in alternating small ones with the large ones. Attach all the rays with hot glue to the wooden ring so that their bottom is close to its inner edge. After you attach the ceiling medallion with hot glue in the center of your ring of paper rays, do the same with your mirror.

Finally, string crystal beads onto an elastic beading cord and attach them around the outside of your mirror with hot glue. Cut the strands of shell beads to separate them, and attach individual shell beads with hot glue around the edge of your crystals. You can also add a Command strip to the back of the wooden ring and hang the mirror.

This is a great DIY project to make your own beautiful home decor and a great gift idea! With a little bit of effort, you can create something truly stunning and unique for your home. Imagine how proud you'll feel when your friends and family admire your handcrafted Sunburst Mirror!
