Instead of scrolling through your mobile devices, playing games or watching Netflix, why don’t you try a different pastime and be more active? These games will surely be enjoyable, exciting, and beneficial.

A nice bonding time with your family and friends will definitely complete your summer, and outdoor games are one of the best things that you can try to keep yourself from getting bored. So, take a step outside and invite everyone to play games and have an awesome time.

Hide and Seek

Something about hide and Seek is just so exciting and thrilling, especially when you’re the “seeker”. Getting to find all of the players who tried not to be spotted feels like you have accomplished something huge!

The game starts off by choosing one person that will play the role of “seeker”. Before the game begins, everyone except the seeker will be given time to choose a location where they can hide.

Subsequently, the seeker will start finding the other players. The first player found will be the next seeker, and the last player found wins the game.

Playing the game will not only make your kids happy, but it will also give them physical benefits too. Since playing Hide and Seek counts as an exercise, it helps them build stamina and it also supports muscle development. Plus, the challenge of getting to hide well tests their agility, coordination, and stability.

Red Light, Green Light

Choose one person that will be the traffic cop. That person must have a good distance away from the other players, usually five meters afar.

The other players are lined up in the starting point. When the cop says green light, the players can freely move and race toward the cop. When the cop says red light, players are not allowed to move and, if caught, they will be sent back to the starting point.

Aside from all the fun, this game teaches kids how to have self-control and awareness. This encourages kids to be attentive and respond with concentration and controlled movements. Play the game and try your best not to be caught!

Tag

Tag, touch, or tig. This game is called by different names but it gives the same joy and thrill that everybody loves.

Tag is one of the easiest games that the whole family can play. The tagger will be chasing the other players. If the tagger gets to touch or tap the player they were chasing, that makes the tapped player the new tagger.

There are plenty of other kinds of Tag that you can explore. These two below are examples that you can try instead of playing the normal Tag.

  • Freeze Tag - The tagger has three minutes to catch up with other players in an effort to freeze and tag them. When another player is tagged, the tagger taps them and says, "FREEZE! The participants who are not "it" must flee from the players who are "it" by running, dodging, and hiding.
  • Blob Tag - One player will start out as the blob or the tagger. The remaining players scatter throughout the playing area. The blob will be tagging the other players. When a player is tagged, he must team up with the tagger to form a blob and run to tag other children.

Playing tag is an intense cardiovascular exercise. So, what are you waiting for? Go bond with the family and have fun while staying fit and healthy!

Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a classic outdoor game that is really popular among kids. You first draw connected shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, or any shape that you desire. Then, number them from 1 to 10. Finally, ready a small piece of objects like a rock or a coin to be used as your lagger.

Making sure the lagger lands inside the first shape as you toss it is important. Then, you need to either hop on one leg or use both depending on whether the shape is square or side-by-side.

You need to be careful though. Once you step on a shape that has a lagger of a different player, you’re out!

The game helps kids gain body control. Hopscotch also teaches kids how to control their body rhythm, which is the foundation for many other skills. The game enhances lower body strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and other abilities.

Scavenger Hunt

This game is a fun and challenging outdoor game for kids that helps them learn important skills.

All you need is a list of items and a place to hide them. Kids will need to use their imagination and problem-solving skills to find all the hidden objects. This is a great way to get your kids moving and working together as a team.

Some tips for playing the scavenger hunt:

  • Make sure the items are easy to find but difficult to reach.
  • Hide the items in different places around your yard or inside a complex structure like a tree trunk.
  • Make sure the clues are easy enough for kids to follow but difficult enough to keep everyone entertained.

Playing the scavenger hunt is a great way to teach your kids about problem-solving, spatial awareness, and teamwork. A game with your friends and family will surely be an epic experience!

Sack Race

The sack race is a classic outdoor game that is perfect for summer days. For this game, you only need a relatively large sack that you can get into. Hop in one and have a joyful race with your friends and family. But be careful, you might trip!

The sack race is a competitive game in which players hop forward from a starting point toward a finish line while enclosing both of their legs inside a sack that extends to their neck or waist. The first player to reach the finish line wins the game.

Sack race makes for an excellent cardio exercise. As you and your kids hop while holding the sack or pillowcase up, it helps your little ones improve their endurance and balance.

Ring Toss

This game needs no introduction. To decide which player or team goes first, flip a coin. Half of the players stand by each stake. Rings of the player's or team's choice are thrown at the opposing stake. Up until all of the rings have been thrown, players or teams take turns throwing one ring at a time.

Children's coordination abilities are developed and improved through ring toss. Although it’s a bit hard because it demands focus and self-control to judge distance and throw rings accurately. However, ring toss promotes focus, hand-eye coordination, and cooperative play.

Conclusion

Spend your summer with your kids and try engaging them with some outdoor games. Playing outside with them will certainly be worth your time and effort. So, what are you waiting for? Go out and make your summer extraordinary with your loved ones!
