In this blog post, we’ve put together a list of the top 9 things to do in Utah when you’re on summer vacation. From outdoor activities like hiking, biking, fishing, and rafting to indoor activities like visiting museums and zoos, there are plenty of fun things to do in Utah this summer.

Without further ado, let's get started!

1. Take a Scenic Drive

Utah's famous Highway 12 scenic drive

One of the best ways to see Utah's scenery is to take a scenic drive. There are many different scenic drives in the state, so find one that interests you and drive along it. Some of the best scenic drives in Utah include Highway 12 in Southern Utah, Mirror Lake Scenic Byway in Heber Valley, and the Potash Scenic Byway in Moab.

As a bonus, many scenic drives have rest stops with restaurants and shops, so you can stop for lunch or grab a quick snack along the way. All in all, scenic drives in Utah is a great way to experience its natural beauty.

2. Go to the Museum

There are plenty of different museums in Utah, from small museums that focus on a specific topic -- for example, the Rosenbruch Wildlife Museum -- and large museums that showcase a wide variety of subjects.

Museums are a great way to learn about history and culture, and they're also fun to visit. Whatever your interests, there's likely a museum in Utah that has something special to offer.

3. Visit a National Park

Your visit to Utah isn't complete without visiting a national park. And there are plenty of great national parks in the state, from Zion National Park to the Bryce Canyon National Park

National parks are great for nature lovers and for people who want to get away from it all. They offer a lot of hiking, biking, camping, and other outdoor activities, so if you're looking for a fun summer vacation activity, visiting a national park is a great place to start.

4. Try Some Local Cuisine

Although Utah is not known for its delicious food, there are still plenty of great places to try in this state. From upscale dining at Hyatt Regency in Salt Lake City to down-to-earth eating experiences in Ogden and Provo, Utah is truly an undiscovered culinary paradise that's suited for anyone's taste.

And don't forget about the unique experiences Utah restaurants offer. Salty Dinner Theater, a restaurant in Orem, offers a dinner show with singing, dancing, and comedy. What's more, you get to mingle with the characters which is super fun!

5. Go to the Zoo

Zoos are a great way to learn about animals and their habitats, not to mention a lot of fun, especially when the whole family gets to go together.

There are several zoos in Utah, including Aunt B's Barn and The Farm at Gardner Village. They are both petting zoos where kids and animals get to play. They offer a hands-on animal petting experience that is perfectly suitable for kids of all ages.

6. Tour the State Capitol

It's beautiful, isn't it?

The Utah State Capitol is one of the most iconic buildings in Utah, and it's a great place to tour if you're in the area. It houses various offices of the state government such as the office of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and both the chambers of the Utah State Legislature.

As a center of government for the state, Utah State Capitol is a fascinating place to visit. And if you're lucky, you might be able to see a legislative session in action.

7. Go Hiking

If you're looking for a fun summer vacation activity that's also a little bit challenging, hiking is a great option.

There are lots of different trails to explore in Utah, depending on what type of hikes you want to take. There are shorter hikes such as the Queen's Garden Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park, or for more experienced hikers, Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park is what we recommend.

If you want a scenic view, Angel's Landing at Zion National Park comes at the top of the list. With its huge drop-offs and narrow ledges, however, it's not for a beginner to hike.

8. Play Golf

As one of the favorite destinations of golfers in the United States, Utah has many golf courses of varying levels. It's no surprise that the state has around 120 clubs, with corresponding associations for junior, senior, and women golfers.

One of the most popular golf courses in Utah is TalonsCove in Saratoga Springs. With the mesmerizing lake views of Mount Timpanogos in the background, you are sure to have a great time playing golf at TalonsCove.

9. Visit a Waterpark

Of course, summer isn't complete without a visit to a waterpark! Visiting a waterpark is a great option to stay cool this summer season, and there are several great ones in Utah. The best ones are usually the busiest during the summer months, so be sure to plan your trip well in advance.
